'Thirst'

'Thirst' is a contemplative congregation that worships together 6pm Sunday evenings at the Minsitry Centre, Preston.

We use silence, meditations, rituals from a range of traditions, music, scripture and personal sharing to help us celebrate the presence of God's Spirit in our lives. Highlights of the worship include an extended period of silence for prayerful meditation and a gentle atmosphere that encourages a depth of personal sharing.

Worship also includes, and a light communion meal with soup, bread and wine; and by the time we have prayed, chatted and eaten, two hours have normally flown past.

We also run occasional retreats and seminars for people in the wider community who are interested in spirituality.

When planting the congregation in 2002, we had primarily in mind the needs of people aged 40 to 60, who were under represented in our church; however there are those both younger and older, who also find this style of worship helpful.

The title 'Thirst' refers to our seeking after more of God in our lives. The service is both an oasis, where we can drink on those spiritual things that sustain our lives, and a watering hole where we can gather to share our experiences of the week.
